Shirley J. Harris, CPA

Shirley is a tax specialist and shareholder of Bible Harris Smith, P.C.  After spending several years in New York City, she returned to the Knoxville area and joined the firm in 1985, assuming the role of managing director in 2008.

As a member of the firm's "Tax Team", Shirley's primary responsibilities lie in the area of taxation.  However, she also provides consulting and management advisory services to closely-held companies and their owners.  Over her years with Bible Harris Smith, P.C., Shirley has developed an expertise in real estate taxation and medical practices as well as other matters that affect our varied client base. She has developed continuing education courses and the firm’s continuing professional education in the taxation area. She is also involved in computer consulting and has assisted various clients in designing their accounting systems.

Shirley graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a major in accounting.  She began her accounting career with a certified public accounting firm in New York City.  While in the New York area, Shirley was also associated with the city's Off-Track Betting Corporation.  Prior to moving to New York, she was associated with what is now First Tennessee Bank.

A member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), Shirley has successfully completed the AICPA's Educational Achievement Program for Taxation of Closely-Held Businesses.  She is a member of the TSCPA Small Business Committee and is past chairman of the TSCPA Knoxville Chapter's Services for Small Business Committee. She has served on the board of Fairview Technology Center and the Knoxville Chapter of the TSCPA.  Shirley is a member of Maryville First Baptist Church.
