About Bible Harris Smith
We are a certified public accounting firm in downtown Knoxville, TN, specializing in tax compliance, bookkeeping, consulting, and attestation services. We began operations in Knoxville in 1949.
In the beginning, the firm got off to a slow start until a client relationship began with a company that paid two hundred and fifty dollars a month for accounting services. It was a significant amount in those days and allowed the firm to keep its doors open.
Over the years, the firm has grown, and our company name has changed several times until it became known as Bible Harris Smith in the mid-1990s.
Our primary area of operation is the greater Knoxville area, relocating to downtown Knoxville in 1986. We also serve clients all over East Tennessee, Nashville, TN, Atlanta, GA, and many other places throughout the US.
The Bible Harris Smith Difference
We are kept busy all year round with our planning, consulting, and financial statement attestation. However, the busiest time for us is the traditional “tax season,” which runs from January 15th to April 15th (in non-COVID times).
Each year, we throw a “goodbye party” in January to spend time with our hardworking employees and their families before kicking off the busy period. We recognize that we won’t be at home much as our focus switches to clients and overcoming the constantly changing tax laws. So, we host this annual party to encourage our team members and show appreciation to their families for sharing them with us. After tax season, we are more than happy to have our employees spend as much time as they need with their families.
One aspect that makes us second to none is our client service, as we believe that when we help make our clients successful, we become successful. Therefore, we try to become their business partners and provide expert resources to help them make informed decisions.
We also have numerous clients that have joined us from larger firms after not feeling fully appreciated, so we try to exceed their expectations. We’re not aiming to be a low-cost provider but instead render a great value for the price.
In this endeavor, we’ve invested in the latest technology over the last seven years, which sets us apart from competitors. It’s enabled us to roll out new programs to improve our efficiency and achieve success.
One of our most significant achievements has been leveraging software in all aspects of our business. It’s allowed us to work remotely to overcome poor weather and illness and hold onto professional employees who have moved away.
Technology has also reduced our environmental footprint by improving the way we manage and store client information. While we may never be completely paperless, we have made excellent progress.
Our dream for the future is to prepare our staff for broader roles by continuing to keep our eyes on emerging opportunities while improving the practices we already offer.
We also believe in giving back to society and, as part of that belief, support several non-profit organizations.
